Maruti Suzuki India is going to display its SUV Concept in India at the upcoming Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi India. This information has been revealed by a senior executive from MSIL. The SUV will be a concept which will be developed in India and will be launched by end of 2013 or early 2014. The SUV is under design phase and its not clear whether the design will be done by Maruti Suzuki India or carried from Suzuki Japan. The SUV segment is one space where Maruti does not have a firm hold in terms of market share. There is a lot of scope for Maruti to enter this segment with a good SUV and further increase the sales and Market share of Maruti In India.

As per the Maruti Executive:
“The segment has grown significantly in the past few years and we want to have a presence there. It will take at least two years for the model to be production-ready. The details regarding engine and other specifications will be worked out soon.”
The market for SUVs in India is getting a good steady growth which is evident from the sales of Mahindra SUVs in Indian market. Almost all major car makers in India have a good presence in the SUV segment in India. With Maruti entering this segment with a strong contender, the competition is likely to go up for the good.
