This drag race between a Maruti Ciaz and Jimny is quite interesting. The Ciaz is a mid-size sedan which rivals the likes of the Hyundai Verna and Honda City in our market. On the other hand, Jimny is a prominent lightweight off-roader. It is one of the most popular and well-known off-roading SUVs in the world. The basis for this seemingly unfair competition is that both these vehicle carry the same engine. Hence, the aim is to see how different can similar engines perform in real life.
Maruti Ciaz vs Jimny Drag Race
This video is on YouTube from Gaurav FiTravel. The vlogger has two vehicles side by side. For the first round, he takes the Jimny, while his companions have the Ciaz. On the count of three, the two accelerate their vehicles hard. Initially, the Jimny takes the lead. However, within a few seconds, the Ciaz swiftly overtakes the Jimny and stays ahead for the entire race. It takes the first round. A similar trajectory follows in subsequent rounds. Even though they both have the same engine, the initial grunt in the Jimny is stronger but the Ciaz has a better top end. Hence, Ciaz was the overall winner of this race.
Specs
Both these vehicles come with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates 103 hp and 138 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission. Note that in the case of the Jimny, it had off-roading tyres. Hence, the performance could have been slightly better without them. Perhaps, it would’ve been able to give a tougher fight. In any case, both these vehicles are designed for very different applications. Hence, a direct drag race between the two is not completely fair despite the same engines.
Author’s Note
YouTubers often opt for drag races to compare the performance of two cars in a straight line. While it might showcase the acceleration of the two cars, it may not be the best way to judge their capabilities. Firstly, no one can ever drive in a straight line with full throttle in daily scenario. Moreover, driving cars like this all the time might create some mechanical issues. Hence, we would like to advise our readers to stay away from such activities to ensure your personal safety, as well as the safety of your vehicle. Don’t imitate the YouTubers blindly.
