Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest selling car manufacturer, has come up with a new variant of its hot-selling Ciaz C-segment sedan. This new variant, which is being referred to as the ‘S’ trim, is available with both petrol and Diesel engines. While the price of petrol Maruti Ciaz S is Rs 9.39 lakh, the Diesel model of the Ciaz S costs Rs 11.55 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi). Basically, the new Maruti Ciaz S replaces the erstwhile trim that was available before the retail of this sedan moved to Nexa. The new model of the Ciaz comes just days ahead of the launch of the new 2017 Hyundai Verna. Maruti is also working on the Ciaz facelift, which we expext to launch at the Auto Expo 2018.

The new Ciaz S definitely looks sportier and hence, more appealing than the regular car. It gets a handful of new features for both its exterior and interior. While the design of the car remains the same as earlier, the new bits come together to make the car aesthetically more appealing. The specifications and the mileage figures remain unchanged as the new variant doesn’t bring any mechanical chanhges. The car continues to draw power from the same 1.4-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS 200 Turbo Diesel (with SHVS) engines that power the regular car.

The new ‘sports’ variant is based on the Alpha trim. The petrol model costs Rs 9.39 lakh and the Diesel costs Rs 11.55 lakh. Both the engine variants come with a manual transmission.

Maruti Ciaz S Features – Exterior
On the outside, the new Maruti Ciaz S features a bootlid spoiler that looks like the same one that was available on the erstwhile Ciaz RS. The car also gets side skirts and diffusers on the front and rear bumper.

Maruti Ciaz S Features – Interior
The interior of the Ciaz S has an all-black them and gets black panels with brushed aluminium finish accents. The car also gets black leather upholstery to enhance the sportiness and the premiun-ness of the interior. The Ciaz S is based on the Alpha trim and hence, gets all the features that are available on the Alpha variant.

In terms of specifications, the Ciaz S remains the same as the regular variants. It comes with two engine options – a 1.4-litre K-series Petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS Turbo Diesel. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the petrol engine offers a max. power of 91 BHP, the Diesel motor offers 89 BHP. The petrol engine outputs a peak torque of 130 Nm as agains the 200 Nm offered by the Diesel engine. The Diesel engine also comes with the SHVS mini hybrid system.

Thanks to the SHVS mini hybrid system, the Ciaz Diesel becomes one of the most frugal cars in the entire country. It has a mileage of 28.09 KMPL. Even the petrol model offers a decent fuel mileage of 20.73 KMPL.

Maruti Ciaz S Engine and Transmission
The 1.4 L Petrol and 1.3 L Diesel engines from the regular have been carried over unchanged to the Ciaz S variant. There is no diesel automatic variant on offer. A 5-speed manual transmission is a standard across the range. There have been rumours suggesting the Ciaz will receive the S-Cross’ 1.6 L Diesel as well. However, there is no official word on that yet. Thanks to Suzuki’s mild hybrid tech, the Ciaz SHVS diesel returns 28.09 KMPL overall making it the most fuel-efficient car in the country. It also helps the Ciaz avail tax benefits under the Government’s FAME initiative that promotes Hybrid and electric cars.
