Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Ertiga are soon going to get a new 1.5-litre diesel engine added to their line-up in addition to the existing 1.3-litre motor.
Maruti Suzuki is soon going to introduce an all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine in select models from its product portfolio in India. This new oil-burner has been developed in-house by the homegrown automaker. This new engine is eventually going to replace the existing 1.3-litre diesel engine currently available across most of Maruti’s products in our country.
Initially, this new 1.5-litre diesel engine is going to launch in India in BS-IV configuration. And only in the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Ertiga MPV. It will retail alongside their existing 1.3-litre diesel engine. It will be available only on select variants and without Suzuki’s mild-hybrid systems.

As the BS-VI deadline approaches, Maruti will phase out the 1.3-litre diesel engine comppletely. As a result of this, the S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza too are in contention of getting this new engine in their line-up.

A recently leaked document reveals all the variants in which this new 1.5-litre engine will be available in the Ciaz and the Ertiga. Both the MPV and the sedan is going to get this new engine in all variants excpet the base LDI and Sigma respectively.
This new 1.5-litre diesel engine will churn out 94 BHP of power along with 225 Nm of peak torque. There have been some unconfirmed reports stating that when this engine goes into BS-Vi spec, the power and torque outputs are likely to increase slightly. As far as the transmission options go, as standard, there is going to be a 6-speed manual transmission on offer.
