Maruti BS6 Models comprises of Alto, Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, Baleno and XL6. Its premium sedan, Ciaz will also be launched with BS6 engine soon.
Maruti Suzuki was the first to roll in BS6 vehicles and since then many manufacturers have started following the lead. Despite the auto industry slow down and Maruti shutting down the production plant, the news is that about 70% of the total sales of the Indian carmaker constitute of BS6 engine models.
Maruti Suzuki BS6 engine portfolio constitutes of Alto 800, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Ertiga and the recently launched XL6. All these models constitute of BS6 petrol engines which can run of BS4 fuels too without any problem. It is the diesel engines which will phase out after new emission norms kick in 2020.
Speaking about the development, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “As a responsible and environment conscious brand, Maruti Suzuki is aligned with Government of India’s vision to introduce BS6 compliant vehicles before April 2020.

Furthermore, seven of our top selling models are BS6 compliant much before the deadline. We are committed to progressively upgrade our entire range of petrol cars to BS6 technology before stipulated timelines. The BS6 vehicles use Suzuki’s proven technology that helps to substantially reduce the emissions thus contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.”
One of the main reasons why the company switched to BS6 engines much before the deadline is that they emit almost 25% less nitrous oxide. The Indian carmaker has successfully converted the 0.8-litre engine which houses the Alto, the 1.2-litre K-series engine which is available in the WagonR, Swift and Dzire. The bigger 1.5-litre unit is seen on the Ertiga and XL6.

The smaller 1.3L DDiS diesel engine will be axed out soon and in place, the in-house 1.5L motor will take its place. However, Maruti has earlier said that they will remove the diesel engines but will continue with the 1.5-litre if the demand persists.
