Maruti Brezza’s safety rating in its current iteration is not available since the compact SUV has not been crash-tested yet by NCAP. Brezza is among the highest-selling products in this category. The compact SUV segment is extremely crowded in India. That has been the case in the last few years. In modern times, safety ratings of cars have become immensely crucial. People take it into consideration before buying cars. Hence, it makes sense for carmakers to equip their cars with the latest safety tech. The Maruti Brezza is among the safest cars in the Indo-Japanese carmaker’s India lineup. Let us take a look at the details here.
Maruti Brezza’s Safety Rating by NCAP
Note that the Maruti Brezza was crash-tested by the Global NCAP back in 2018. At the time, the rules and protocols of crash testing were different than what they are today. Also, that was the older model of the Brezza. However, I must mention here that the current model still uses the same platform. Therefore, we can expect it to carry a ton of characteristics from the old model, perhaps also the safety prowess. In any case, at that time, the compact SUV scored a decent 4-star rating in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category and just 2 stars in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) segment. Remember, this model had 2 airbags. This made the Brezza the safest vehicle in Maruti’s portfolio.

Maruti Brezza’s Safety Rating – Adult Occupant Protection
In this AOP category, the Maruti Brezza secured a decent 12.51 points out of a possible 17. That is what led to a 4-star safety rating. At the time of the impact, the protection to the driver and passenger’s head and neck was good. Apart from that, the driver’s chest displayed marginal protection while the passenger’s chest showed good protection. Both the driver’s and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection since they could impact dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube. Furthermore, the bodyshell was rated as stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings. Note that the SUV offered 2 airbags and ABS as standard.
Child Occupant Protection
In the COP segment, the Maruti Brezza just managed to score 17.93 points out of a possible 49. This amounts to a rather disappointing 2-star safety rating. As is the case with this protocol, the dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old were placed in the second row of the compact SUV. Note that the Brezza offers ISOFIX child seat mounts to fix the children’s seats. The child seat for the 3-year-old was installed FWF with ISOFIX and top tether and was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact with good protection for the head and marginal protection to the chest.
The 18-month-old CRS was installed with ISOFIX and top tether forward facing which explains the loss of head points. It showed poor protection for the head and limited protection for the chest. The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibility. The vehicle offers standard ISOFIX and top tether anchorages in the 2 outboard rear seats and does not offer 3-point belts in all seating positions. All this resulted in a below-average rating. Now, we can assume that most elements of this model will be carried over to the current model. But the protocols have become stricter and the test will now be conducted by Bharat NCAP.

Our View
Maruti Brezza is the safest vehicle in the lineup of the largest carmaker in the country. While that was true for the old model, I expect it to boast a similar rating this time around as well. But I would refrain from making any claims until the official crash test occurs. I would also like to explain to the readers that we must never rely on safety ratings and ensure that we follow the traffic protocols, in the first place. There is no substitute for safe driving. The safety prowess of a car only comes into the picture when things go wrong. Let us pledge to be responsible drivers, adhere to the laws and encourage everyone else to do the same.
