Here’s a tug of war challenge between a Maruti Baleno and a more powerful Volkswagen Polo. You will be shocked seeing the results!
Usually, tug of war challenges are done between SUVs and that too, the most capable ones. Rarely, we have ever seen a tug of war challenge between two hatchbacks. Nevertheless, here, Baleno petrol has been put against the likes of Volkswagen Polo. Let’s see who is the winner.
As you can see, the tug of war challenge is done on a slushy surface. Both of the cars are in slush, mainly their front wheels are. There’s one thing amiss. Seems like the front wheels of Baleno are not on a very grippy surface when compared to the Polo. In this challenge, both of them will accelerate at the same time.

However, things go wrong in just a couple of seconds. While you can see both the cars struggling hard to find the traction, Maruti Baleno spirals out of control. It literally changes its directions as it finds difficulty in gaining the traction. Polo manages to stay at the same place but instantly stops accelerating seeing the condition of Baleno.
Talking about the specifications, Baleno gets a 1.2 Litre petrol engine that is good for 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. This one here is the Polo MPI which gets a 1.2 Litre three-cylinder unit, producing 76 PS and 110 Nm of peak torque. Despite Baleno being more powerful and torquier, it was defeated by the likes of Polo.
The weight of the Baleno is about 835 kilograms which makes it very light. On the other hand, Polo is more than 200 kilograms heavier, weighing about 1072 kilograms. This is the primary reason for Polo to maintain its stand. We still think that the Baleno actually had no grip when compared to the other one.

The 1.2 MPI engine for Polo came a long time ago, before it was replaced with a 1.0 Litre MPI. Now, it also gets a 1.0 Litre three-cylinder TSI engine that is good for 110 PS and 175 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. Maruti Baleno continues with its 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine but gets a mild-hybrid system, which gives a 7 PS boost!
