The Maruti Baleno has recently achieved its five lakh sales milestone in India. The premium hatchback managed to crack this number in a matter of 38 months. This makes it the fastest to do so.
The Maruti Baleno is currently leading the premium compact segment with a total of 27% market share. For the period of April to October 2018, this hatchback’s sales grew by a total of 20.4%.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno made its debut in India during the month of October 2015. After its launch, it took no time in climbing to the top spot. Not only this but it also manages to continuously make the list of top 10 best selling cars in India every month.
The Maruti Baleno is currently priced in between INR 5.38 lakh to INR 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in both petrol as well as diesel engine configurations.

The petrol derivative comes with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder VVT unit. This engine is capable of producing 88 BHP of power along with 115 Nm of peak torque.
The diesel derivative comes with a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, DDiS unit. This engine is capable of churning out 74 BHP of power along with 190 Nm of peak torque.
Both the cars come as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol derivative, however, is also available with a CVT automatic gearbox.
The top-spec variants of the Baleno are feature packed. It offers projector headlamps, SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity.

In terms of safety, the Baleno comes with dual airbags, ABD with EBD and ISOFIX child seat anchorage as standard fitments.
Even after its debut more than 3 years ago, the Baleno continues to dominate the market. The demand is such that one has to still face a waiting period on delivery.
There have been some speculations regarding the launch of a mid-life update for the Baleno. We estimate Maruti to launch the new Baleno in India sometime during the first half of next year.

Expect the updated Maruti Baleno to feature minor cosmetic updates. However, we expect the automaker to continue selling this hatchback with BS-IV engines and only upgrade the same post-2019.
