A 20-year-old woman returning from a wedding function was killed by a speeding Maruti Baleno that dragged her on the road for four kilometre. The mishap took place in Sultanpuri. All five occupants of the car have been taken into custody. The victim worked part-time in marriage functions and was returning home from one such engagement.

All Occupants of Maruti Baleno Arrested
As per Harendra Kumar Singh, DCP, Outer Delhi, the victim’s leg got stuck in one of the wheels of the Maruti Baleno. She was dragged on the tarmac for almost four kilometres. The accused claims to have not known of the victim being dragged with the vehicle. Finally, on becoming aware of it, the occupants separated the body from the car and fled the spot.
“A case under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) has been registered against Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishan (27), Mithun (26) and Manoj Mittal. While Deepak is a driver, Amit deals with SBI cards in Uttam Nagar, Krishan works at Connaught Place, Mithun works as a hair dresser in Naraina and Mittal works as a food dealer in Sultanpuri,” the DCP said.

Drunk Driving Yet to be Ruled Out
Police collected a blood sample from the driver to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has alleged foul play. They have rejected the claim of accident and feel it’s a case of sexual abuse. “The girl was dragged for around 10 meters. Scooty and the body has been found in two different places. It is not an accident, after seeing that girl alone, something wrong must have happened with her, that’s why the scooty and the body were found at two different places,” a relative alleged.
The Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) has issued a summons to a senior police officer in this case. “Whereas the Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo-moto cognisance of media reports of death of a woman due to an alleged accident. As per media reports, in the midnight of New Year, a car allegedly hit the scooty of a woman in Kanjhawla area of Delhi. Reportedly, the car dragged the woman on the road for around 7-8 kilometers. The dead body of the woman was found on the road without any clothes,” the notice read.
