Maruti Suzuki is all set to claim its share in the pie of small car segment which never existed before Tata Nano, world’s cheapest car. With the price difference in the cheapest car offering of Maruti Suzuki (Maruti Alto Standard at Rs.2.57 Lakh) being almost twice as compared to Tata Nano( Rs. 1.3 Lakh), it makes all the sense to fill the gap. We had earlier reported a cheaper Rs. 2 Lakh Maruti Alto Strip Down Variant In making, the facts are getting clearer with time passing by.
As per the recent report by Financial Express, the car will be launched in mid of year 2011. The vendors who will be sourcing engine components for the cheaper stripped down version have revealed that the engine will be a 2 Cylinder Petrol engine codenames YP3. This engine will power the cheaper Stripped Down Maruti Alto which currently has an 800 CC FD8 MPFI Petrol Engine.
Just like the New Alto K10 with an enhanced engine is set for higher power demanding customers, the new strip down Also will be for economy demanding customers. The new 2 Cylinder YP8 engine is expected to be lesser than 800 CC in displacement and will comply with BS4 emission standard. The Stripped Down Alto may be priced between Rs. 1.8 to Rs. 2 Lakhs and will still be more expansive than the Tata Nano. Even after being costlier than Nano, the new Alto will surely be successful to attract some of the Nano buyers towards re-considering their choice. Lets wait and watch till we get some more details.
