Here’s the Maruti Alto K10 going against the Renault Kwid 0.8 Litre in a quick drag race. Check out who wins the race!
To get your racing blues up again, here’s two most humble and affordable cars in India battling it out with a drag race. The Maruti Alto K10 has been pitted against its arch rival Renault Kwid to see who is the clear winner among both. These cars are absolutely not meant for racing but for practicality and easy on the pocket.
As you can see the video, the Kwid has a headstart among the two. It manages to stay the initial 10 seconds ahead of Maruti Alto. When both the cars jump into the second gear, that’s when something interesting happens. The Alto rushes ahead as soon as it enters the second gear, leaving the Kwid behind for good.

Towards the end of the race, you can see the huge time gap between both the cars. That shows us that the Alto is peppier and better in acceleration than the Kwid. For the first 5-10 seconds and seeing the screeching burnout from Kwid, we expected something else. But turns out Maruti Alto takes away the prize.
However, it is also clear that Alto had an advantage of having a bigger engine. It uses a 1.0 Litre three-cylinder engine that produces 69 PS and 91 Nm of peak torque. Its power to weight ratio is 91.9 BHP/Tonne. In the case of Kwid, its 800cc engine is good for 54 PS and 72 Nm of peak torque. Kwid 800cc has a power to weight ratio of 80 BHP/Tonne.
Now the Alto K10 has been discontinued permanently and has not gotten the BS6 upgrade. The primary reason for that is its close price proximity with Maruti S-Presso and Alto 800. Since the former was launched, the sales of K10 started reducing. And now, S-Presso is a more worthy rival to the Kwid as both adapt an SUV-type design.

As for the Alto 800, it is priced from Rs 2.92 Lakhs up to Rs 4.36 Lakhs. Lastly, the S-Presso starts at Rs 3.71 Lakhs up to Rs 4.99 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).
