This is the latest case of a Maruti 800 facing aquaplaning. Accumulation of water on roads is a widespread issue in many parts of our country, often attributed to heavy rainfall and inadequate, unplanned construction. Pools of water on road surfaces are a familiar sight due to these factors. Nevertheless, when encountering such conditions, it’s crucial to adjust our driving habits slightly to prioritize safety. Neglecting this adjustment could lead to incidents similar to the one depicted here.

Maruti 800 Encounters Aquaplaning
This video comes from MUNDODI VLOGS on YouTube. It captures a visual of a Maruti 800 losing traction on a wet road and ending up crashing on the side of the road. Thankfully, it didn’t take out other vehicles with it. It looks like it was being driven at a high speed. The driver is unable to control the sideways movement as the tyres skid due to aquaplaning. This happens while negotiating a curve. This was a single-lane road and there was oncoming traffic. However, the drivers of the Renault Duster and Toyota Etios Liva were vigilant and able to move out of the way. Finally, the Maruti 800 collides with the trees and bushes on the side of the road. Thankfully, it didn’t topple over.

Aquaplaning
Aquaplaning is the occurrence when a layer of water forms between the tyre and the road, exerting pressure against the tyre and resulting in a loss of traction. This water layer lifts the tyre above the road surface, causing a complete loss of traction. The tread patterns on tyres are specifically designed to mitigate this situation. However, instances arise when individuals drive recklessly or with worn-out tyres, leading to accidents such as the one depicted here.

Author’s Note
It is clear that this is a classic case of the impact of aquaplaning. Because it was the old Maruti 800, this phenomenon affected it a lot. One can clearly see that there are other vehicles on the road as well. However, it looks like the driver of the Maruti 800 was driving at a slightly higher speed. We know that it has thinner tyres in comparison to the other modern cars. Hence, the surface area in contact with the road is also less. Apart from that, we also don’t know how well the tyres have been maintained. Therefore, it is possible that the treads of the tyres were worn out which is why aquaplanning affected them this much. In order to avoid it, you must drive slowly in rainy conditions and ensure that your tyres have adequate rubber at all times.
