The country’s largest carmaker is aiming to grab more market share for itself by capitalizing on the massively growing trend of SUVs in the market.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is establishing a concrete strategy to capture the SUV market segment in India and could possibly achieve that by bringing the much-awaited Jimny. The Japanese car marquee had already announced 4 SUVs pretty soon out of which the updated Brezza has already been launched. The Toyota Hyryder-based mid-size SUV is next in queue after which there might be a Baleno-based crossover and finally, we might see the Jimny on our roads.

Maruti Aiming For 50% SUV Market With Jimny?
The SUV segment in India is currently dominated by Hyundai. It has products like the Venue, Creta and Tucson capturing almost the entire spectrum. Maruti has always felt a vacuum in the mid-size SUV segment as the S-Cross is not exactly the right fit. That problem will be solved by the upcoming Hyryder-based mid-size SUV. Beyond that, there is a scope of a 5-door Jimny making its way into our market. Admittedly though, there has been a lot of buzz around the Jimny for quite some time now.

Especially after the success of Mahindra Thar, Maruti has got the necessary feedback from the customers about their willingness to own lifestyle off-roading SUVs at an affordable price point. Suzuki Jimny is a world-renowned compact SUV focused on off-road capabilities. Indian automobile experts and potential customers have responded positively to the SUV at the Auto Expo events. Maruti is already manufacturing the Jimny in India for exports. Hence, the business proposition makes sense for Maruti.

If the aforementioned products make it to the market within the next couple of years, Maruti stands a great chance to achieve the goal of grabbing around 50% SUV market for itself. We just have to wait and watch what the next plan would be after the mid-size SUV is launched in our market sometime around the festive season this year.
