With a surge in the internet users, online scams like the one luring unsuspecting users with a free Maruti Baleno have got more common
Recently, we reported about a Mahindra RSA fraud wherein miscreants posing as Mahindra officials would call XUV700 owners and ask them for payments to continue the Roadside Assistance service. A Tweet made by Delhi police has shared the URL of a phishing site being circulated through whatsapp messages. The said URL, which is flagged by most antivirus engines as malicious, shows a quiz to lure the user with a chance of winning a Baleno and other prizes on sharing it with 10 other Whatsapp uses. However, visiting this website downloads a ‘streaming search’ plugin in Google Chrome extension to steal user’s credentials, cookies and search history. It’s fairly common for internet users to have important information like passwords saved in web browsers and falling prey to this fraud could potentially cause a lot of problem.
As you can see in the images we have above, the website prompts internet users to ‘get offer’ and then share a link with other whatsapp users to ‘continue’ to claiming the grand prize of a Maruti Baleno Sigma MT. However, it is important to mention here that Maruti Suzuki is not holding any celebratory offer to commemorate its 40th anniversary and all those who come across this link should simply steer clear of visiting it.
