In a bizarre incident, a man in Abu Dhabi, UAE steals a car and gets traffic challans for various violations of a whopping Dh508,000. This roughly translates to Rs 1.13 Crore when converted to INR as per the current exchange rates. Interestingly, the woman who originally owned the car kept getting notices from the authorities to pay the fines. Needless to say, she had no idea where her car was after it was stolen from her. Man Steals Car in UAE and Gets Rs 1.13 Crore Challans
It is common knowledge that the traffic rules and regulations in the UAE are very stringent. The police authorities slap huge fines to prevent people from breaking traffic laws. As a result, road safety in the country is taken very seriously and not too many road accidents occur. However, the problem of car theft is still very high. Even with modern cars and all the electronics in them, car lifters are able to devise ways to cheat the system and steal cars.

In one such case, a man was able to steal a car. It belonged to a woman, who registered the complaint of theft. All this while the man was committing traffic violations and she was getting the challans and fines for that. Finally, the Police got hold of the man and everything became clear. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail in addition to a fine of Dh500 (approx Rs 11,000 INR). Naturally, the woman asked the authorities to clear her name off the file and strike off the amount payable since she has not committed any of these violations.

She filed a lawsuit at the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court. However, the case took a turn here. The court found out that the plaintiff had not paid the court fees and therefore, her lawsuit could not be acceptable. The judge said that the woman had not presented any document to confirm that she submitted a request for the postponement of court fees or asking for an exemption from payment. Hence, she was told to pay for the defendant’s legal expenses.
