In the latest interview of the man who rode Bajaj Dominar to Antarctica said that big bikes are not for India. Legendary biker Deepak Kamath is a prominent figure in the bikers’ community in India. He has been around the world on his bike for years now. In fact, he is not the one who did all this for social media or vlogging. He has been an avid rider since the time of the 1990s. At the time, the concept of vlogging was unheard of. Not to mention, the infrastructure in India and various other places in the world was quite poor. Hence, riding was quite challenging. Finally, there were not a lot of capable bikes around either.

Big Bikes Not For India – Deepak Kamath
This video comes from Bulubiker on YouTube. It is a snippet from an extensive chat with Deepak. In this conversation, he talks about numerous experiences he’s had while he was on the road. He narrates his adventures from back in the day when he climbed Khardung La in 1990, the highest motorable road in the country at the time to when he rode to Antarctica in just 99 days. The insane interactions he has had with people from across the globe can’t be summarised in words. They have become a part of who he is today.

In this particular part of the conversation, he explains why he thinks that the big bikes are not for India. To be honest, he makes some valid points. He questions the need for a 1,200-cc or bigger bike. The roads don’t allow utilising the full scope of what these motorcycles could achieve. It is unsafe beyond a certain speed limit. To prove his point, he mentions that not a lot of these people who have such bikes have done too many kilometres on these bikes. Therefore, at the end of the day, you just get to flaunt such machines around the coffee shops and local city squares. But that is not what these bikes are designed for.

What We Think
We understand where he is coming from. We witness so many instances where these bikers are just seen speeding on a brief stretch of roads in busy cities. While that might look cool, it doesn’t mean anything. Moreover, they are risking their own lives, as well as the lives of everyone around them. Hence, we definitely agree with what the legendary biker has to say about big bikes. Nevertheless, we can’t judge anyone who is willing to spend the big bucks for superbikes in India. There are some prominent celebrities who have an innate passion for motorcycles like John Abraham and MS Dhoni. To each his onw!
