Small car segment in India is the hottest segment and no car manufacturer in India wants to miss out on this segment. The leader in this segment, Maruti Suzuki with its Maruti Alto has been clocking wonderful sales months after months. Hyundai is coming with its 800 CC car Hyundai HA or Hyundai 800 which will launch in India before end of year 2011 will also add good competition to other cars in this segment. Recently joining the race is Mahindra and Mahindra which is reputed automobile maker in India in commercial vehicles segment, SUV and MPV. Mahindra and Mahindra will be launching its small car in India by 2013-14. The car will be made in its manufacturing plans in Tamil Nadu. The project plan is ready and the components design etc. is also getting finalized. The car is expected to go into manufacturing towards the end of year 2013.
The pricing of the car will be kept close to Rs. 3 Lakhs which will make it a head on competitor of the Maruti Alto segment in India. The codename for the small car project is Mahindra BLR, in which M&M will invest close to Rs. 800 Crore. This is a good news for the small car buyers as competition helps to bring in more choices, better features and competitive pricing in the segment. With the small car in India getting better in performance, fuel economy and features, this market is hotter than ever.
