It is always fascinating to hear about the experience of drivers when they drive something that they don’t own.
In this video, a Mahindra XUV700 owner drives the Toyota Hycross. XUV700 is a luxury mid-size SUV that has been doing impressively well in our market since its launch in 2021. It received lakhs of bookings and is still amidst the process of fulfilling those orders. On the other hand, the Hycross is aimed to carry on the legacy that Innova has managed to build over the years in our market. It sells alongside the Innova Crysta. It is, essentially, the premium and SUV-ish avatar of the ever-reliable and popular Innova Crysta.

XUV700 Owner Drives Hycross
This video has been uploaded by MotorBeam on YouTube. It captures a conversation with an XUV700 owner. He states that he is a diesel lover and has driven the original Innova and the Crysta prior to buying the XUV700. But the Hycross is a hybrid petrol which is something new for him. As soon as he gets inside the Hycross, he confesses that the cabin feels much more premium compared to the Crysta, which he still owns and drives. The comfort and features are better than Crysta but lesser than XUV700.

Talking about the driving, since he enjoys the punch of diesel powertrains, he isn’t particularly thrilled about the punch (or lack thereof) in the Hycross. Nevertheless, he understands that the use case of something like a Hycross is different from XUV700. In that regard, he finds the operation quite smooth and effortless. Being a hybrid, the fuel efficiency is much appreciated as well. That is the main draw for a whole lot of people.

Mileage & Reliability
Talking about the mileage, he confirms that he is able to get around 14 km/l from his Mahindra XUV700 diesel whereas the Hycross can give around 17 km/l. Naturally, it largely depends on how one drives. Nevertheless, the XUV700 is known for low mileage because of the powerful engine, particularly in the petrol trim. But the entire argument gets settled when the XUV700 owner states that one can relax for at least 10-15 years after buying a Toyota. It remains to be seen if Mahindra is able to replicate that in times to come.
