Common Reasons and Prevention of Fire in Cars
- Aftermarket Modifications – The most common reason for cars catching fires is aftermarket car customizations. People often play around with the stock electronics of the car to install new accessories. That can eventually result in short circuits because the quality of materials in the open market can hardly compare with OEM standards. But car owners don’t realize that and to save some money, they buy the cheapest components. You must avoid that at all costs.
- Poor Maintenance – There can be instances where car owners don’t pay enough heed to the maintenance of their cars. Some prevailing cases in point could be leaky seals, broken parts or faulty wires. If not attended to, they can cause fires. Therefore, you must take care of such things actively.
- Overheating Catalytic Converters – A catalytic converter is responsible for minimizing the level of pollutants in the exhaust gas of an engine. It often operates under extremely high temperatures. However, it can sometimes overheat for many reasons. If you ignore this problem, fire might be the final outcome.
- Overheating Engines – Another common reason for car fires is overheating engines. This is an extreme case where the coolants are damaged for some reason and the driver keeps the vehicle in motion. In such cases, it is important to let the engine cool down. Failing to do so warrants the engine to catch fire.
- Spilled Fluids – Another prominent reason for a fire in a car is spilled fluids. A car comprises of many fluids for various functions. They could range from brake oil, engine oil, coolant, petrol, diesel, and more. For any reason, if any combustible fluid leaks and gets hot enough due to any reason, it could cause a fire. You must visually inspect any such case before driving.
