Mahindra and Mahindra India in its official press release disclosed the name of its World SUV Mahindra W201 to be called officially as “Mahindra XUV500” which will be pronounced as XUV ‘5 double Oh’. The new SUV has been developed in India indigenously based on a monocoque chassis. The XUV500 will be first global SUV platform from M&M and will serve to many countries across the globe. While design and development of the XUV500 aka W201, the inputs and feedback were taken from many different automobile markets of the world and these points were kept in mind while designing this global SUV. The XUV500 will be placed between the Scorpio and the high end SUVs with an aim to target the Generation X of various automobile markets. The naming has these elements “X” which denotes Gen X and “OO” which denotes the oomph factor which M&M wants to emphasize on.
The XUV500 is first transverse engine SUV from Mahindra and has been developed keeping in mind global standards of quality, technology, testing and safety norms, emissions etc. from the beginning to avail it to maximum possible markets globally. It will be produced at the Chakan Plant in Maharashtra, India.
