Mahindra has not only discontinued the diesel automatic with AWD and sole petrol variants of the XUV500 but has also increased the prices of all other variants as well.
Mahindra has silently axed the only petrol variant of the XUV500. Along with that, Mahindra has also discontinued the W11 diesel automatic AWD variant of the XUV500. Not only that, they have also increased the prices of all the remaining variants by Rs. 1000-2000. The XUV500 now has a starting price of Rs 12.31 lakh (ex-showroom).

The petrol variant of the XUV500 was powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churned out 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque. The engine came mated to only a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Mahindra XUV500 petrol was one of the most powerful petrol SUVs in the segment.

The diesel variant of the XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that puts out 155PS and 360Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. The XUV500 offered an automatic gearbox and AWD system in its top-spec variant and was one of the few mid-size SUVs to be offering both together. Now however, with the discontinuation of this top-spec diesel AT AWD variant, you can only have the automatic transmission on the two-wheel drive variants.

On another note, Mahindra has been testing the next-gen XUV500 for some time now and it has also been spotted testing quite a few times. Mahindra might add some features likes a dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats to the next-gen XUV500 to make it a more attractive package. It will be powered by BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel engines. It is expected to hit the roads by mid 2020 with a likely preview at the 2020 Auto Expo.
