Mahindra will be launching the XUV300 in a new Sportz trim which gets a new 1.2L T-GDI petrol engine with 130bhp and some cosmetic changes as well.
The Mahindra XUV300 is already a popular product in its segment and its set a receive some more flare to up its appeal. Apart from a slew of electric cars at Mahindra’s stall at the 2020 Auto Expo, the manufacturer also showed off a new Sportz variant of the XUV300. The Mahindra XUV300 Sportz basically features some cosmetic changes but more importantly, it gets an all-new 1.2-litre T-GDI (Turbocharged – Gasoline Direct Injection) engine.
This new engine is part of Mahindra’s mStallion family of engines. The BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, direct-injection, turbo-petrol engine puts out 130hp and 230Nm of torque. That makes this engine 20bhp more powerful and it also has 30Nm of more torque when compared to the current BS6-compliant, turbo-petrol engine in the XUV300. This 1.2L T-GDI engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and it will be sold alongside the existing 1.5 diesel and 1.2 turbo-petrol engines.
With this new engine, the Mahindra XUV300 will be the most powerful petrol compact SUV in its segment. Currently, the Ford Ecosport is the most powerful petrol compact SUV in the segment with 123 bhp. In fact, just yesterday, we reported to you that this new 1.2L T-GDI engine will also feature in the Ford Ecosport as a replacement for its now-discontinued 1.0-litre EcoBoost unit.

On the visual front, the Sportz variant of the XUV300 gets body graphics, with ‘Sportz’ mentioned on the front doors and red front brake calipers, in order to differentiate it from the standard XUV300. The Sportz’s cabin gets an all-black treatment, with red highlights on the dashboard and red contrast stitching on the seats.

The Mahindra XUV300 Sportz will be launched in India in April this year. The XUV300 belongs to one of the most competitive segments in India. It rivals the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Mahindra will also launch the all-electric version of the compact SUV, the eXUV300, in the second-half of 2021.
