Dealerships have started accepting the bookings for Mahindra XUV300 AMT. It is expected to launch in mid-July and likely to be Rs 50,000 more premium than its manual counterparts.
Launched earlier this year, Mahindra XUV300 created a good impact in the compact SUV market until the Hyundai Venue launched. It was offered in manual transmission only for both the petrol and diesel trim. Now further details are being circulated that an automatic diesel will launch soon and the bookings for the Mahindra XUV300 AMT have started.
The diesel AMT is expected to be offered in higher trims like the W6 and W8. The lower W4 will continue to sport the 6-speed manual transmission. The Magnetti-Marelli sourced 6-speed automated manual unit will be a premium by Rs 50,000 towards its manual counterparts.
Powering the Mahindra XUV300 AMT will be 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol which churns out 110 bhp with a healthy torque of 200 Nm. The ARAI certified fuel economy for this engine comes out at 17 kmpl. On the other hand, the diesel motor produces 115 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque and sources its power from a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The returned fuel economy comes out at 20 kmpl certified by ARAI.

As for the price of the Mahindra XUV300 AMT, it is likely to command a premium of about Rs. 50,000 in the top-spec W8(O) variant. The current diesel manual W8(O) variant is priced at Rs. 11.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. The XUV300 diesel AMT would then become the most expensive diesel automatic SUV in the segment.
In terms of competition, other sub-4m SUVs that come with a diesel automatic combination are the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. Both come with AMTs like the XUV300. On the other hand, the Hyundai Venue and the Ford Ecosports have petrol automatic along with the Tata Nexon’s petrol AMT. The Hyundai offers a 7-speed DCT whereas the Ecosport has a traditional torque convertor.

The chances of an automatic transmission in petrol motor is rare since it is expected that there will be a more powerful petrol motor in the near future.
