The compact SUV was already a 5-star rated product prior to the facelift at the Global NCAP
The Mahindra XUV 3XO has been tested at the Bharat NCAP and it has bagged a full 5-star rating. XUV 3XO features in one of the most crowded market segments in India. This space boasts SUVs from every major car marque in the country. Hence, this is a brutally competitive division. Still, the XUV 3XO has been able to navigate its way through it with decent sales numbers. However, the latest Bharat NCAP safety rating announcement could boost its demand even further. Let us take a look at the detailed report.
Mahindra XUV 3XO Tested at Bharat NCAP
The compact SUV was able to secure 29.36 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 43 points out of 49 in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. On account of this, both these categories were eligible for a full 5-star safety rating as per the Bharat NCAP protocols. The XUV 3XO had 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt pretensioner, seatbelt load-limiter, airbag cut-off switch, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder as standard. Consequently, this score is valid for the entire variant lineup.
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)
In the AOP category, the Mahindra XUV 3XO was able to bag 13.36 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16 points out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated โOKโ. The head, neck, pelvis and knees of the driver demonstrated good protection while the tibias offered marginal protection. For the passenger, the head, neck, chest, pelvis, knees and tibias displayed good protection. The abdomen of both front occupants have adequate protection. Totalling this up results in an impressive 29.36 points out of 32.
Child Occupant Protection (COP)
Then we have the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. In this section, the Mahindra XUV 3XO scored a Dynamic Score of 24 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12 and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 7 out of 13 for a total of 43 points out of a possible 49. The ISOFIX mount for the 18-month-old child was installed rearward facing, while that of the 3-year-old child was also installed rearward facing. With all these aspects in place, the result was a full 5-star rating.
My View
In today’s day and age, customers take into consideration the NCAP scores of cars before making a purchase decision. Hence, it becomes critically important to produce vehicles with high safety ratings for the carmakers. It is also a key factor in distinguishing a car from its peers. Hence, we shall take a look at how well this score translates to the demand for the compact SUV going forward.
