The XEV 9e will be among the first new-age electric SUVs from Mahindra which will shape the company’s future in this segment
The world premiere of the upcoming Mahindra XEV 9e is slated for November 2026 at the Unlimit India event in Chennai. The Indian auto giant has announced two new electric brands for the future – XEV and BE. We already know that these will be underpinned by the new Electric Origin INGLO platform. As the name indicates, the XEV 9e will be based on the existing XUV700. This is visible from the exterior silhouette already teased a few days ago. Let us take a look at the details here.
Mahindra XEV 9e Spotted Testing
These images capture the rear and side profiles of the electric SUV. At the rear, the EV gets a roof-mounted spoiler along with a shark fin antenna. However, the biggest talking point is the sloping roofline for the coupe appearance. In fact, on the bootlid, there is a full-width LED light bar which enhances the overall appeal of the SUV and lends it an imposing road presence. The lower section of the SUV looks subtle even though complete details will emerge when we witness it sans camo.
On the sides, I like the chunky cladding around the wheel arches and the side door panels. There are colossal alloy wheels the design of which is buried under the camouflage. In addition, there are black side pillars, flush-fitting door handles and a sharp crease from the front fender to the rear fender. I am intrigued to experience the large SUV in the flesh. The teasers already displayed the front end with the connected LED light bar at the front integrating into C-shaped LED DRLs and a prominent headlamp cluster. More details will emerge at the world premiere.
My View
The Indian automobile industry is already getting hot when it comes to electric cars. The future clearly seems electric. With more relatively mass-market products, we are beginning to see more EVs on the roads. The infrastructure is also expanding swiftly. Mahindra is just in time to flood our market with almost 5 new EVs within the next two years. Hence, it will only be a good thing for the potential buyers who will have incredibly diversified options to pick from. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
