Mahindra and Mahindra India, one of the leading SUV makers in India has reveled their plans to launch two new cars in coming months. Interestingly, none of these two are SUVs – one of them is a new small car which will be a hatchback based on Mahindra Verito Sedan which is an entry level sedan from Mahindra. Verito, formerly known as Mahindra Renault Logan has been rebranded to Verito after Mahindra decided to buy Renault’s share in their joint venture. The sales of Verito have been steady and have increased post that and now Mahindra is going to launch a small car based on Verito- Mahindra Verito Hatchback by September 2012 as per information shared by Arun Malhotra, senior vice-president, sales and customer care. The Verito hatchback will also be manufacturer at Mahindra’s Nasik plant where the Verito sedan is manufacturer.
The Verito hatchback will be under 4 meters in length and will provide good interior space as the Verito sedan is quite wide and is comfortable in the interior space. The Verito hatchback is expected in both petrol and diesel engines and will mark Mahindra’s entry into high volume small car segment in India. M&M expected to sell close to 3,000 units/month of Verito hatchback small car in India.

In another update, the Vice Chairman and MD of Mahindra Group has confirmed in a twitter conversation that new Mahindra Reva electric car will be launched this year (2012). We have seen the Reva NXR at the Auto Expo 2012 and there gave been plenty of spy pictures of the same shared while testing on Indian roads which is a clear indication that the new Reva NXR launch is approaching. Maharashtra State has recently announced tax exemption on battery run vehicles in the state which will encourage the sales of the NXR in the state of Maharashtra as it will become more economical to buy a Reva electric car along with the benefits of low running cost.

Apart from these two cars which are small cars from Mahindra’s stable, Mahindra Xylo Mini MPV is also expected to launch in India however Mahindra has not officially talked about it so far and has not showcased it anywhere officially till now (as in May 2012). Since the testing of the Xylo Mini has been going on for very long time now, we expect that it should also be near its official launch and will launch in this fiscal (FY 2012-13). The mood of Indian automobile industry is not very upbeat at this time because of the petrol price hike and declining sales, but new products and innovations with more eco-friendly and fuel efficient cars are the way to go forward. We will keep you updated on the same, so stay tuned to Car Blog India.
