The Indigo CS came in years ago and was the first sedan to come at a size of below 4 meters in India. Later on, the lucrative tax benefit the Indian government has on offer for car below 4 meters started gaining popularity and the companies started jumping on the wagon for developing a Compact Sedan and a Compact SUV. Maruti Suzuki was the first one to join Tata motors and now Mahindra and Mahindra has joined them too.
The sub-4 meter is not new for Mahindra and their runaway success Quanto has been the result of their realization of the compact segment. The Mahindra officials confirmed developing a Verito CS long back and today we have for you the spy shot of the Verito sedan, courtesy the very aware people we have on the roads in our country who do not let go of a single vehicle in the slightest of foilage on our roads.
The car would look the same from the front but it is the rear where you find all the changes. The car now looks more of a notchback rather than a sedan. The third box which is the boot is so small that it almost makes it a notchback. The car will look disproportionate to say the least if the comes out as a compact sedan but would look way better as a hatchback. But the can be said only when we see an un-camouflaged test mule.
The Verito CS will have the same engine options on offer as the current model which are the extremely reliable 1.5 litre K9Kdiesel engine and a 1.2 litre petrol unit. The car will hit the showrooms by March 2013 and we expect many more spy shots to come once the launch date nears. The Verito fell on its face despite being a real good product. Will the sub 4 meter segment accept it well and change the car’s fortunes? Only time will tell. Till then, we’ll suffice with the spy shots.
