In the latest report, Mahindra has announced that it would not launch any new car between April 2019 to April 2020. Currently, the Mahindra S201, Marazzo and XUV 700 are gearing up for their launches this year. After these three, Mahindra would not launch any new model. Check out the reason for this decision.
Mahindra currently has 3 upcoming car launches before March 2019. The MPV Marazzo, a compact SUV codenamed as S201 and the Ssangyong Rexton derived Mahindra XUV700. The Marazzo and S201 will most probably launch in the festive season period, probably around Diwali 2018. The full-grown XUV700 is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2019. After these three launches, the Indian auto-maker has decided not to launch any new cars between 1st April 2019 to 1st April 2020. It might just launch the refreshed versions of some products in this 1 year. The decision was mainly taken due to the upcoming BS-VI emission norms in April 2020. All of the BS-IV compliant cars will have to develop their engines according to the new rules, which will also be much expensive. Check out more details about this confirmation.

According to the BS-VI emission norms, the automobile makers will have to fit expensive emission control equipment for reducing high-level pollution in metro cities. This decision is, particularly for diesel engine cars. As you know, Mahindra currently has a huge portfolio of diesel cars.
With the new emission norms kicking in, the prices of diesel cars are going to increase hugely. So, the BS-VI compliant Diesel cars are now going to be much costlier than the earlier version.

The homegrown automaker is not the auto-maker to slow down its launches. Many of the makers have already planned to skip new launches till the new norms kick in. A lot of companies are even thinking of chucking out their diesel cars for cost-cutting and keeping the prices the same. Already, Mahindra has knocked out the Quanto. The Xylo was also rumoured to be shunted, but it will be used mostly as a cab.
Speaking to analysts, Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Pawan Goenka said, “In terms of brand new products or brand new platforms after these three launches (U321, S201, and G4 Rexton) there will be nothing for the rest of the next calendar year. We will have a couple of refreshes during the calendar year 2019. Our new platform launches will start from 2020 which could be a full model replacement or a new model.”

It recently launched an extended version of the TUV 300 with 9-seater configurations.
