Mahindra Thar is a capable off-roader that has impressed many off-roading enthusiasts but the potency of its diesel motor and 4×4 gear has been put to test in this video
There’s no denying the highly capable nature of the second-gen Mahindra Thar. The SUV has already impressed many off-roading enthusiasts across the country and continues to command a huge waiting period in spite of influx of new SUVs like the XUV700. However, today, we have video on a tug of war match between the Thar and mini school bus. You sure need to watch this video till the end to know why the 4×4 gear of this SUV makes all the difference!
At the start of the video, the vlogger reveals his plan of organizing a tug of war match between the Thar and a mini school bus. He goes on to state that the SUV’s opponent here weighs more than twice and is at least twice as popular. While specs of this school bus aren’t available, the second-gen Mahindra Thar, for reference, comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 130bhp and a peak torque of 300Nm. The transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic unit. The off-roader tips the scales at 1,750 kg.
Two rounds of the tug of war match were conducted. In the first round, the driver of the SUV tries to pull the bus towards itself in 4×2 model. However, in both the ties, the bus easily wins the match by pulling the Thar into its area instead. Now, this is something that was totally expected as the bus is not just more powerful but also heavier. In the second round, however, the 4×4 is engaged and the Thar can be seen winning the match pretty effortlessly.
Again, this is something that is not really surprising. Even in the 4-high mode, the peak torque of the latest Mahindra Thar diesel is multiplied 2.48 times, thereby amounting to a whopping 748Nm. This is sufficient to win a tug of war match with a small bus like the one seen above. Also, the video even shows the how capable the off-roading gear of this SUV is.
