YouTubers often use the method of drag race to compare the straight-line acceleration of two vehicles.
This classic drag race between the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Grand Vitara is quite exciting. Both these belong to different segments. However, there is a huge price overlap between the two. That is what warrants this competition. Note that this is the 3-door version of the Thar. It is a hardcore off-roading SUV. In fact, adventure seekers have been fascinated by the Thar for years now. The Thar is primarily used for off-roading purposes. On the other hand, the Grand Vitara is a mid-size SUV which is popular among urban dwellers. Let us check out which one comes out on top in a drag race.
Mahindra Thar vs Maruti Grand Vitara Drag Race
This video emerges from Nishchal’s Drive & Discover on YouTube. The vlogger has the two SUVs side by side. For the first round, the two drivers accelerate on the country of three. However, there was some issue with the Grand Vitara’s hand brake. After the second round, the Grand Vitara took the lead from the onset and remained ahead throughout the race. The drivers attempted a few more rounds. However, the result remained the same. As a matter of fact, they even changed the driver of the Thar for the last round. It did put up a fight briefly, but the Grand Vitara emerged an undisputed victor.
Specs Comparison
The Mahindra Thar in this video comes with a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine which generates a decent 130 hp and 300 Nm of peak power and torque. It comes with a manual transmission which powers all four wheels. On the other hand, the Maruti Grand Vitara has a 1.5-litre K Series naturally aspirated petrol engine which produces a familiar 103 PS and 138 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with a 5-speed manual transmission. Hence, the Thar is the clear favourite on paper.

Our View
I have reported numerous instances of popular YouTubers adopting the method of drag races to compare the performances of two vehicles. However, I must mention that it might not be the best idea. Firstly, most cars are never driven in this manner in daily routine. Secondly, these can cause long-term impacts on the mechanical components since you are pushing the car to its limits without any reason for long periods of time. Hence, I would suggest our readers to stay clear of such activities.
