This is an interesting tug of war competition between a Mahindra Thar and a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Both these SUVs have a similar application but they belong to two extreme ends of the spectrum when it comes to pricing. On one hand, Thar is the most capable and affordable off-roader. It has been the most successful off-roading SUV in India for years now. On the other hand, the Wrangler Rubicon is one of the most hardcore off-roaders in the world. Let us take a look at this tug-of-war of these two capable SUVs.

Thar vs Wrangler – Tug of War
This video comes from Small Town Rider on YouTube. It captures an exciting competition between the SUVs. The YouTuber takes the SUVs to an off-roading location. They traverse across some uneven surfaces. But that is not a problem with vehicles like these. Finally, they reach the place where they plan to do the tug of war. They tie the rear ends of the SUVs using a harness. On the count of three, the drivers press the accelerator pedal. For the first round, they do this in 4×2. They repeat the process in 4×4 High and 4×4 Lo subsequently. Still, the results remain the same. No SUV was able to pull the other. Hence, this was a dead draw.

Mahindra Thar comes with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel making 150 hp / 300 Nm and 130 hp / 300 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions on offer. It comes with a dedicated 4×4 configuration with a low-range transfer case and locking differential. On the other hand, the Wrangler Rubicon comes with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generating a healthy 268 hp and 400 Nm of peak power and torque. What We Think
Lately, YouTubers have been using tug-of-war challenges quite frequently to compare how well two vehicles perform. However, this approach may not provide meaningful insights and can lead to lasting harm to the cars involved. Generally, cars aren’t subjected to such intense acceleration in a straight line during typical use. Consequently, it’s not recommended to try these tests with your own vehicle, primarily due to safety concerns and the potential for mechanical damage. We strongly discourage participating in such stunts. Tug-of-war competitions don’t offer a comprehensive assessment, as everyday driving rarely includes such aggressive manoeuvres. It’s wiser to prioritize your safety and the long-term well-being of your vehicle.
