The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition gets signature paint schemes, new alloys, Signature edition badging and leatherette upholstery with ‘Thar’ branding.
The current generation Thar is going to be phased out soon and to mark the end of this generation of the Thar, Mahindra will be launching a limited-run Thar Signature edition. However, ahead of its launch, a few pictures and details of the Thar Signature Edition has already surfaced on the internet.
Only 700 units of the Thar Signature edition will be built by Mahindra and they will be available in only two colors – Napoli Black and Aqua Marine, the latter being similar to the one seen on the Marazzo. It will also get new five-spoke, 15 inch alloy wheels that has already been seen on the previous-gen Scorpio and the Marksman.
There will be black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper. Adding to further details, there will be a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on the front fenders bearing the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group. On the inside, it will remain largely the same but will get new leatherette upholstery with the lettering ‘Thar’ on the seats.
Mahindra will commence bookings of the Thar Signature edition very soon. It will be sold with the same 2.5L, CRDe diesel engine which will come mated to a five-speed transmission. The current generation Thar does not comply with the latest crash test regulations in the country that will come into effect from October, 2019, and does not even come with ABS.
However, the Thar Signature Edition, like all other Thars produced from April, 2019, will feature ABS but they will still not comply to the crash test regulations and will thus be eligible for sale only till September, 2019. Mahindra has even discontinued the base DI variant of the Thar and the only engine option with the Thar right now is the 2.5l, CRDe diesel engine.

Mahindra has already been working on the next generation of the Thar for quite some time now. It has also been spotted testing several times and is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. The new Thar will likely be powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that will possibly churn out 120 hp or 140 hp.
Apart from diesel, Mahindra might also introduce a petrol engine in the Thar to expand the Thar’s portfolio. Also, and most importantly, the next-gen Thar will feature much better interiors with more technology and it will certainly be more refined and better at insulating road noise, vibrations and heat which were one of the biggest drawbacks of the Thar.
