The Mahindra Thar is available with two engine options – a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, delivering peak power and torque figures of 130 hp / 320 Nm and 150 hp / 320 Nm respectively. Buyers have the choice between a manual transmission and an automatic transmission. The SUV boasts a dedicated 4×4 drivetrain, ensuring its capability to conquer any type of terrain. The pricing for the Mahindra Thar ranges from Rs 10.54 lakh for the rear-wheel-drive version to Rs 16.78 lakh, ex-showroom, for the top-of-the-line 4×4 trim. Please note that the upcoming 5-door variant will have a slightly higher price premium compared to these existing prices.

Mahindra is about to launch the 5-door version of the Thar soon. In fact, we have seen the test mule on the roads on multiple occasions. That is when things will get really interesting. The Jimny has taken the market by storm and people are buying it like hot cakes. Now the onus rests on the shoulders of the Indian SUV maker to launch a compelling variant of the Thar that will somehow attract more buyers.
