In a rather sad incident, a brand new Mahindra Thar catches fire due to aftermarket accessories. Thar is one of those vehicles which the owners take to the aftermarket for all sorts of modifications. Most of these customizations are to enhance the off-roading characteristics or road presence. Then there are elements which owners install just to improve the aesthetics. In any case, people want to make their vehicle stand out from the crowd. However, that can often lead to undesirable consequences. Here is one such example.

Mahindra Thar Catches Fire
This post comes from iammharshvlogs on Instagram. It captures the off-roading SUV on the road. Its front section is visibly on flames. Thankfully, it is parked on the side of the road. Also, since it is the night time, there is not much traffic around. Moving closer to this Thar reveals that the front right headlamp seems to be the source of the fire. Interestingly, the owner had installed aftermarket headlamps on the SUV. That could possibly be the reason for this incident.

Note that the headlamps might have been safe, but the wiring associated with them could be faulty. We know that the OEM components go through rigorous standardization and quality assurance checks. But we can never be sure about the aftermarket car accessories. The wiring often leads to such cases due to short circuits or related reasons. Sure, there could be many other reasons too. But getting unreliable and low-quality components for aftermarket modifications is the prime source of fires.

We must not jump to conclusions of blame the car or the carmaker. Fires can occur for a number of reasons. However, we have reported most cases due to aftermarket components. People often tend to save money by installing low-quality equipment. These can cause issues with the wiring and other electronic components of the vehicle.
