The new Thar will be based on the same platform as the Scorpio N and will also borrow the powertrain options from it. This means it could come with either a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine or a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available for these engines. Additionally, it will be equipped with advanced off-roading technology to tackle various tough conditions. Currently, the 3-door Thar is priced between Rs 10.98 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, ex-showroom. The 5-door variant is likely to have a considerably higher price than these.

The 5-door Mahindra Thar has been undergoing testing for quite some time. It has been spotted in various places, even in the challenging landscapes of the Himalayas. This shows that the Indian automaker is thoroughly testing this rugged off-roader. Apart from that, the longer wheelbase will ensure a more spacious cabin including a bigger boot compartment. That will address the pain point in the current 3-door model. Hence, the 5-door Thar is bound to enhance the practicality.
