Here is a quick drag race video between Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari, which produce the same power and torque figures.
Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari are two cars which are not known for performance, but just for the looks and dominance on the road. While one is a tall boy SUV, the other is a big bulky one. How well will they fair against each other? Here is a quick drag race between Scorpio and Safari Dicor to see which one is faster.
Both of them are in RWD configuration producing the same power figures. Scorpio gets a 2.2 Litre mHawk turbodiesel engine that is good for 140 BHP and 320 Nm of peak torque. Safari Dicor uses a 2.2 Litre turbo-diesel as well, producing the same 140 BHP and 320 Nm. The only difference is that Scorpio gets an additional 6th gear.

In the first round, right from the starting line, Scorpio takes a nice lead. Till the end, the gap widens gradually and Scorpio wins the race. The second round sees a change in the drivers. Even in the second round, Scorpio takes a quick lead and wins the race by a huge difference. End results say that Mahindra Scorpio is faster than Tata Safari.
There are couple of reasons for Safari to lose. First, it has aftermarket fatter tyres which cause an effect on the acceleration. The car is nearly 9 years old and has already run 1.3 Lakh kilometres. Also, the Scorpio is comparatively lighter than Safari and with slightly better low end torque, the former becomes the winner.
Mahindra Scorpio will soon receive an update, towards the start of next year. It will get a completely new platform, new engines and a revised look. Along with new petrol and diesel engines, Scorpio will also get automatic gearbox for both the motors. Prices currently start off at Rs 12.42 Lakhs up to Rs 16.27 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).
