Mahindra and Mahindra has been selling the 4WD variant of the Mahindra Scorpio as top of the line model or as the base level variant. But now strengthening its mid range of the 4 Wheel drive versions, Mahindra has soft launched another 4 WD version of the Scorpio in the Indian market. The latest member of the family is SLE 4X4 variant which will sit between the LX, VLX and VLX AT 4X4 models. Now the number of All Wheel Drive options on offer goes up to 3, giving the consumer a wider range to choose from.
The SLE 4X4 gets ABS, Voice Assist System, Electrically Operated ORVMs, front fog lamps, coloured cladding, rear wash and wipe and demister, follow me home headlamps, Air dams & mud flaps, middle row sliding seats, centre arm rest on 2nd row seat and theatre inspired illumination with illuminated key-rings. That means that the car is pretty much loaded with almost all the features that you wished were on your SUV.
The 4 WD variant will surely increase the sales of the already best seller which has been aging pretty well and is due for a major revamp in the year 2015. But what the loaded variant misses out on is the 2-DIN Audio system with Bluetooth which can be found on the top of the line variants. The engine specifications remain bog similar to the other variants of the car and it gets the same 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel motor which gives out a nice and steady 120 BHP.
The 4X4 gets a low range Borg Warner transfer box which offers a better lower end for taking care of your off-roading needs and the car can be slotted in the All Wheel Drive mode with a shift on the fly switch. The SLE 4X4 will cost you Rs 10.7 lakhs as the ex-showroom price and the addition of the 4 wheel drive variant in the mid-range will surely attract a lot of buyers from the Renault Duster and Tata Safari Storme. Mahindra is also testing a base automatic version of the car which shall also get announced soon.
