Mahindra Scorpio Old vs New Model – All the differences
CarBlogIndia was among the quickest back when Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, the largest UV player in the country, announced the prices of the new model Scorpio earlier this year. The new Scorpio has been on sale since four months now and last we checked, it has only bettered the sales performance of the earlier model. The new Mahindra Scorpio, in spite of the slightly oddball front-end styling, has garnered quite a fan following. However, there still remain sections of SUV buyers, who prefer the looks of the earlier model over those of the 2014 Scorpio. Hence, we have come up here with a comparison of the new Scorpio with the old one. Titled as the Mahindra Scorpio Old vs New model, our report here takes you through all the differences between the two generations of the Scorpio.
Mahindra Scorpio Old vs New (Design and Styling)
In essence, the design of the new Scorpio is based on that of the old model, with only new styling bits added to differentiate between the two generations. Basically, the new Scorpio carries several styling upgrades to make it look nothing like anything that we saw during the earlier car’s last 12 years of existence.
At the front-end, the 2014 Scorpio comes with an all new fascia that boasts of new, and a bit sharply styled headlamps, an all new look for Mahindra’s trademark grille and a slightly different front bumper. While the headlamps feature LED DRLs, the updated bumper gets new foglamps.
In side profile, only the alloy wheels are new. In our opinion, the new wheels look far sportier than the ones it replace.
The rear-end again features a host of updates, such as the new LED taillamps, new rear windscreen and a black applique for the tailgate. The bumper remains untouched.
On the inside, the 2014 Scorpio gets a new dashboard, an upholstery change and a new multi-function steering wheel, which has been borrowed from the XUV500. .
Mahindra Scorpio Old vs New (Chassis. Engine and Suspension)
The new Scorpio is underpinned by an all-new hydroformed ladder frame chassis which is as much as 100 percent stiffer than the earlier model’s frame! Also new to the Scorpio is its suspension setup, which has led to a remarkable improvement in ride quality and high speed handling.
The new 2014 Scorpio has gone on sale with two engines. The entry-level variant (S2) gets a 2.5-litre m2DiCR diesel engine that belts out a modest power of 75 bhp. Other variants get a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which produces a maximum power of 120 bhp. While the power figures remain same as earlier, the base motor, at 200 Nm, gets 20 Nm of additional torque and the 2.5-litre engine, at 280 Nm, gets 10 Nm of more torque. The engine comes mated to an all-new 320MT 5-speed manual gearbox that offers more accurate and smoother playing between the gears.
