In a recent video, the bonnet of a Mahindra Scorpio opens up at 140 km/h. We witness incredibly strange incidents on our roads on a daily basis. This is certainly one such case. Scorpio is a legendary SUV in our market. This moniker has been mega-popular in our country for close to 2 decades now. That is the reason why Mahindra still sells the Scorpio in the Classic version in addition to the modern N model. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest incident.

Mahindra Scorpio Bonnet Opens
This post comes from mechanical.jugadu on Instagram. It captures the live accident. The viewers could see the man driving at 140 km/h. Firstly, that is too high for any highway in the country. Suddenly, as the vehicle goes over the undulations on the road, the bonnet opens up. Thereafter, the video is cut. We are not sure if this led to a crash or not. In any case, the visuals send a chill down the spine of the viewers. One, naturally, fears for the safety of the driver and occupants.

There was another similar incident which we reported a few days ago. On that occasion, the owner reported that this happened after he brought the car back from the service centre. There was a possibility that the mechanics would’ve accidentally kept the bonnet unlocked for some reason. In any case, this is quite bizarre. It seems like such cases are becoming more prevalent. Apparently, people are becoming more and more careless with the maintenance of their vehicles.

What We Think
We would refrain from commenting on this matter until we have the full details. There are chances that the driver would’ve partially closed the bonnet after filling the wiper washer fluid. People often do that. During extremely hot weather conditions, some drivers intentionally keep the bonnet partially opened so that air can enter the engine bay. But then, they are cautious to not drive the cars at high speeds. But in this latest case, the man was driving at 140 km/h. That is just too high. The wind force at such high speeds is so strong that it could easily cause the bonnet to open if it is not properly locked. The exact reason for this can only be ascertained after the investigation.
