Recently we informed you that Mahindra & Mahindra has begun selling Mahindra XUV500 in Europe which is priced around Rs.15 – 16 lakhs. The car was launched in Europe a month ago and the initial reviews have been decent. The base variants of the XUV500 are not available in Europe and only the top of the line W8 is available.
Now that the company has been successful in drawing interest of prospective European customers, it plans to Launch the Mahindra Quanto in the European market too. The Quanto was launched specifically to take on the Duster which is selling in good numbers, and now the rivalry will extend to the European region of the globe.
Mr. Ruzbeh Irani, head of international operations at Mahindra told Automotive News Europe has said that the Quanto will be unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show in December this year, shortly after which the car will start selling. Initially the car will be launched in Italy and later in Spain, where Mahindra already sells Scorpio and Scorpio pickup. Eventually the car will be exported to South Africa and Latin American countries.
The engine equipped by the European Quanto is the same unit that is seen on the Indian version and no specific alterations will be made to Euro model. Transmission options are not yet known as it is being speculated that Mahindra could make use of the 6 speed automatic box which is available in the Scorpio.
Another very interesting piece of information is that Mahindra is developing a sub-4 meter or compact version of the not so popular Mahindra Verito sedan. It will be a lot like what Maruti has done with the Dzire compact. The Verito compact sedan is under development and will be ready for launch by April 2013. The company did not disclose any further details on the car.
Mahindra is going more aggressive as we can see. It is aiming at the global stage and at the same time wants to impress the Indian buyers.
