India’s most affordable electric vehicle is here. Mahindra has launched the KUV 100 EV at the Auto Expo 2020. After showcasing it at the last Expo, here we have the EV ready in the production form.
Mahindra KUV 100 EV is priced at Rs 8.25 Lakhs (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable electric vehicle. The prices are inclusive of the FAME-II benefits for electric vehicles. It is also the smallest EV currently.
KUV runs on a 15.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with the electric motor producing 40 kW (53 BHP) and 120 Nm of peak torque. Mahindra claims that it will offer a driving range of 150 Kms. This says that it is only meant for the in-city commuting.
The exact charging details and other technical specifications will be revealed later. The SUV can be charged from 0-80% in just 55 minutes, with a fast charger. It will also be offered with a standard AC wall charger for home/office charging.
Talking about the styling, there’s no major difference in comparison to KUV 100 NXT. It just gets a different EV-specific front grille and different alloy wheels. Also, it is showcased in this gloss White colour which will be specific to the Electric KUV 100.
Inside the cabin, there’s a small touchscreen infotainment system, its same gearbox styling and a twin-pod analogue speedometer with MID in between. The MID will display information such as battery status, remaining range, charging status and more.
Further details about the availability, warranty and charging solutions will be revealed later. As of now, it does not have any competitor with the next being Tigor EV, priced at Rs 11 Lakhs. Tata recently launched the Nexon EV, which is priced from Rs 13.99 Lakhs.
