Mahindra and Mahindra is helping Ford to develop an electric version of the Aspire sedan for the Indian market. The Aspire EV will be the first vehicle born out of the Mahindra Ford joint venture.
According to a recent report published in ET Auto, Mahindra and Mahindra is helping Ford to develop an electric version of the Aspire sedan. The report further states that this will be Ford’s cheapest electric vehicle, not only in India but also globally. Mahindra and Ford joined hands last September to “leverage their mutual strengths” in developing and distribution of electric vehicles. The memorandum of understanding between the two companies is set for a period of three years. The Aspire EV will be the first vehicle to launch this partnership.
Mahindra Ford Aspire EV: India Launch
According to recent media reports, it is likely that the Aspire EV will launch in India by the year 2019. If this is true, then Ford will leapfrog every other budget car manufacturer in India in the affordable electric car segment. Maruti Suzuki is also working on an affordable electric car which it will launch by the year 2020. While Tata Motors just showcased the EV versions of the Tiago and Tigor at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Mahindra Ford Aspire EV: Price
So far no official confirmation has arrived in this regard. As far as the prices go, it is likely that the Aspire EV will cost under INR 8 lakhs. That said, this is purely speculative on the basis that the car will be affordable. What we know is that this EV will be right in the middle of the budget automotive scenario in India.
Mahindra Ford Aspire EV: Power Specs
Since the Aspire EV is going to be an affordable car, do not expect the performance of a Tesla Model X. That said, the electric sedan will be adequately capable. Mahindra recently launched the e-Verito sedan. The Aspire EV is likely to get the same power unit as in the e-Verito albeit minor modifications. The aforementioned electric motor belts out an equivalent of 41 BHP along with 91 Nm of peak torque. The electric motor derives its power from a 72V Lithium-Ion battery. An automatic gearbox will be on offer. This electric power unit offers a mileage of 110 km on a single charge. Expect the Aspire EV to do more.
