In the BS6 update of the Scorpio, Mahindra has dropped the 2.5L diesel engine, the base spec 120hp 2.2L mHawk diesel engine, four-wheel drive and the base S3 variant.
The BS6 emission norms have already been effective since April 1, 2020 but Mahindra was not on time with the BS6. Now however, Mahindra has shed some light on the BS6 Scorpio and the SUV actually has gone through quite a few changes. Firstly, Mahindra has dropped the 2.5L diesel engine from the Scorpio, re-shuffled its variants and has also dropped the option of four-wheel drive from SUV.
The BS6 Mahindra Scorpio will be available in just four trims – S5, S7, S9 and S11. That means the base S3 variant has been dropped and along with it, the base spec 120bhp 2.2L mHawk diesel engine has also been dropped. The BS6 Scorpio will thus only be available in the higher-spec 2.2L diesel engine which produces 140bhp and 320Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual (only on the S5) and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
To make the 2.2L mHawk diesel engine BS6 complaint, Mahindra has added a selective catalytic reduction system with a dedicated urea tank along with a diesel particulate filter. The same setup was also used to make the brand’s 1.5L diesel engine BS6 complaint which powers the XUV300 and the Marazzo as well.
Other than these changes, the BS6 Scorpio does not boast of any other change. The interiors also remain identical with the same seating configuration on each trim as before. The S5 will be available as a 7- or 9-seater with side-facing seats in the third row. Meanwhile, other variants will either be 7- or 8-seaters. The top-spec S11 trim continues to get the option of captain seats on the second row and a front-facing third row.

With the shuffle in the trims, the S5 is now the new base trim of the BS6 Scorpio and as such comes sparsely equipped. It gets features like dual front airbags, ABS, air conditioning, front seat belt reminders, rear parking sensors, and Mahindra’s micro-hybrid technology. The fully-loaded S11 trim however continues to get alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, auto climate control, reverse camera, faux leather upholstery, cruise control and puddle lamps.

This BS6 update for the Scorpio is just to fill up the time till Mahindra does not come out with the next-gen Scorpio. In fact the next-gen Scorpio is slated for a launch next year and you can expect the four-wheel drive feature to be reintroduced with the new-gen car. Apart from that, Mahindra also has the next-gen XUV500 and the next-gen Thar on the cards as well.
