Mahindra has been planning to launch the eKUV100 for a long time now and the same has been spied recently. The KUV100 was a small SUV that found customers primarily in semi-urban and rural environments. The reasons for that were its rugged built, practicality and utilitarian aspects. However, it didn’t see any many sales as Mahindra would’ve wanted. There were rumours of Mahindra wanting to axe the Marazzo and KUV100. This was supposed to let Mahindra focus on modern products like the XUV700, 5-door Thar, new-gen Scorpio and XUV900 coupe which are lined up for quite some time now. Now, the eKUV100 has been spotted testing. Let us see what it might entail and is it a good idea to launch it now?

Mahindra eKUV100 Spied – Launch Soon?
The images are quite clear and self-explanatory. The vehicle in the image represents the modern and facelifted version of the regular KUV100. However, the badging at the back ensures that no mistake is made in recognising that this is the electric version of the compact SUV. The tail lamps are unique and have an LED element to them. The chrome bar above the number plate area signifies the +/- sign which again indicates the nature of the vehicle. The overall silhouette is somewhat similar to the regular KUV100. The thing that confirms the EV version is the fuel cap/charging socket at the front right side above the fender. The eKUV might see the launch in times to come. But the exact timeline has not been specified.

We are interested to discuss the impact that it will have on our market. The trend of EVs is growing steadily in India but still, the adoption rate and charging infrastructure is miles off from what is required. In such conditions, is it a great idea to launch such a product? The EVs are still desperate for mass acceptance. The government is doing some work to offer subsidies to attract people but huge asking prices of the EVs upfront is keeping many buyers away from going for an electric car. There is the issue of range anxiety due to the lack of charging infrastructure along the highways of the country. The development is happening but it will still take a long time for it to reach every nook and corner of India. Tata has already captured over 60% market with Nexon EV and we are left to think whether Mahindra is a bit too late for the party?
