Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of its first two bespoke EVs with a couple more coming up within the next 2 years
The Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e electric SUVs have been officially revealed before the November 26 world premiere at the Unlimit India event in Chennai. Mahindra is, henceforth, bifurcating its electric lineup into XEV and BE brands. To put it simply, the upcoming 9e EV is based on the existing XUV700, while the BE portfolio will bear a coupe SUV silhouette. Both these will be based on the Electric Origin INGLO architecture. Let us take a look at what these two SUVs look like.
Mahindra BE 6e and XEV 9e Revealed
The images and videos stem from the official X handle of Mahindra. The BE 6e is a coupe electric SUV with a poised and broad stance. At the front, we are able to witness sharp and prominent C-shaped LED DRLs which encapsulate sleek projector LED headlamps. I really like the sloping bonnet line which merges neatly with the grille section. We know that EVs don’t need fresh air since they don’t possess an engine. Hence, the front section is sealed off or often decorated with unique pattern. The EV gets muscular fenders and side profile with pronounced wheel arches. The side profile contains black side pillars and a rising window line. All in all, the BE 6e is bound to possess an imposing road presence.
On the other hand, the XEV 9e is certainly the bigger of the two. One can immediately recognize the XUV700 influence. At the front, the large electric SUV gets 7-shaped LED DRLs which form a continuous LED light bar due to being connected on the bonnet line. The extreme edges of the bumper hold LED headlamps with a broad grille-less fascia. The lower section is quite sporty. On the sides, it gets a solid door panel profile with black side pillars and noticeable wheel arches to house stylish alloy wheels. The tail section looks quite bulky too. Hence, it will definitely grab attention wherever it goes.
My View
Mahindra might only have a single EV on sale today – the XUV400 – but it is certainly planning to flood the Indian EV market with compelling propositions within a short span of time. Note that it showcased 5 EVs a couple of years ago, all of which were planned to be launched in the market by 2026. If it is able to stick to that plan, we will have these EVs on our roads in just 2 years. Going by the popularity of EVs in the country currently, we could experience a sharp rise in EV sales. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this case.
