Mahindra has finally launched the all-new BE 6e and XEV 9e electric coupe SUVs based on the bespoke INGLO platform
In this post, I am comparing the newly launched Mahindra BE 6e and the Tata Curvv EV on the basis of specs, features, design and price. The electric car segment is heating up in India. Until now, Tata Motors was the dominant player in this space with close to 70% market share. Now, the other indigenous car marque is going all out with a slew of electric SUVs slated to be launched within a span of two years. The first two of these are already here. The aim is to manufacture EVs with global standards. As a result, there are tons of ultra-high-tech amenities and new-age technologies. Let us compare the two in depth.
Mahindra BE 6e vs Tata Curvv EV – Price
Note that Mahindra has only announced the introductory price of the base model of the BE 6e without the charger at the moment. The starting price is an attractive Rs 18.90 lakh. More details about the prices will be available at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025 and the deliveries will commence at the end of February or early March 2025. On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV retails between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
Price (ex-sh.) | Mahindra BE 6e | Tata Curvv EV |
Base Model | Rs 18.90 lakh (w/o charger) | Rs 17.49 lakh |
Top Model | TBA | Rs 21.99 lakh |
Mahindra BE 6e vs Tata Curvv EV – Specs and Range
The Mahindra BE 6e is available in two battery pack options – 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Based on Mahindra’s scalable and modular born-electric INGLO platform, the EVs use BYD’s Blade Cell technology with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry. The coupe electric SUV uses a compact three-in-one powertrain (motor, inverter and transmission). The ARAI-claimed range figures are 535 km and 682 km (550 km on WLTP), respectively. Charging takes an impressive <20 mins from 20% to 80% with a 175 kW DC fast charger. The power and torque figures are 228 hp / 380 Nm and 281 hp / 380 Nm, respectively. At present, the BE 6e is available in a single-motor RWD configuration only.
The top trim boasts a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of a brisk 6.7 seconds. There are three driving modes – Range, Everyday and Race with an additional Boost mode which enables 10 seconds of max torque. You can opt for 7.3 kW or 11.2 kW AC chargers. The ground clearance is a healthy 207 mm which is enough to glide over any obstacle. Taking practicality to a whole new level, there are two boot compartments on offer – a regular trunk and a frunk. These offer capacities of 455 litres and 45 litres, respectively.
On the other hand, even the Tata Curvv is on sale with two battery pack options – 45 kWh and 55 kWh. These are significantly smaller than the Mahindra BE 6e. The range figures are 502 km and 585 km, respectively. Interestingly, the maximum power is 165 hp which is, again, considerably lower than the Mahindra’s coupe EV. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 8.6 seconds. In contrast to the 175 kW DC charging capabilities of the BE 6e, the Tata Curvv EV supports a much slower 70 kW charger. This takes 40 minutes to go from 10% to 80%.

Mahindra BE 6e vs Tata Curvv EV – Design and Dimensions
I am pleasantly surprised by the fact that Mahindra was able to bring the BE 6e into production form without deviating much from the enticing concept. At the front, it gets the BE logo along with an aero vent on the edge of the bonnet for airflow to aid aerodynamics, striking 7-shaped LED DRLs on the edges with a colossal gloss black element in the middle and a sturdy skid plate section underneath. The side profile boasts chunky wheel arches with gloss black claddings which house optional 20-inch aero-optimized alloys, black side pillars, flush-fitting door handles, distinct contours on the door panels, and that popular sloping roofline. The tail section has a shark fin antenna, a unique roof-mounted spoiler, an integrated boot spoiler and a full-width LED taillamp with a sturdy lower bumper. It certainly has an imposing road presence.
Similarly, even the Tata Curvv EV has a dominating personality which makes heads turn. The front fascia contains a sleek LED light bar which runs the width of the vehicle, the main LED headlamp cluster is located on the sides of the unique bumper which contains attractive patterns and a skid plate under the bumper. On the sides, it offers prominent wheel arches with elegant alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, side body claddings, black side pillars and a sloping roofline. At the rear, the Curvv EV contains a shark fin antenna, an extended bootlid spoiler and a connected LED strip with reflector lights on the edges of the sporty bumper. I must admit, both these vehicles look attractive.
Dimensions (in mm) | Mahindra BE 6e | Tata Curvv EV |
Length | 4,371 | 4,310 |
Width | 1,907 | 1,810 |
Height | 1.627 | 1,637 |
Wheelbase | 2,775 | 2,560 |
My View
Now choosing between these two will be really tricky. However, we will first need to wait for the official launch to know the exact prices of the Mahindra BE 6e. In any case, these will be much higher than the Tata Curvv EV for the most part. Therefore, it comes down to the kind of tech, amenities, convenience, specs and range you want from your EV. If you can’t compromise on that front and have a flexible budget, opting for the BE 6e will make sense. However, if you are satisfied with all that the Curvv EV has to offer, you might as well save some bucks and pick it up.
