Mahindra has launched its new-age electric coupe SUVs – XEV 9e and BE 6e
The Mahindra BE 6e has arrived, marking a huge leap in the journey of the Indian car marque as we conduct a 0-100 km/h acceleration test. The new XEV 9e and BE 6e are based on the Mahindra’s born-electric INGLO platform. There will be around half a dozen electric SUVs on this platform which will be global products. Clearly, Mahindra is aiming to expand its global footprint with these new energy vehicles. The BE 6e embodies an attractive coupe silhouette with ultra-modern amenities. For now, let us take a look at this acceleration test.
Mahindra BE 6e 0-100 km/h Test
We were able to get our hands on the electric coupe SUV during the media drive. It is available in 3 drive modes – Range, Everyday and Race. These are, in essence, Eco, Normal and Sport. One thing to note is that there is a noticeable difference between the performances of the drive modes. In the Range settings, the coupe electric SUV was able to achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of a healthy 11.12 seconds. However, things got serious with the other two modes. With the Everyday mode, the same feat was completed in just 7.10 seconds. This is over 4 seconds quicker than the Range variant. Finally, in its sportiest settings (Race mode), the EV clocked 0-100 km/h in a mere 7.03 seconds. These are impressive numbers for a heavy electric SUV.
Mahindra BE 6e – Specs and Price
The Mahindra BE 6e comes in two versions – 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery capacities. To keep the costs in check and ensure higher safety, it uses BYD’s Blade Cell technology and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry. Moreover, Mahindra uses a compact ‘three-in-one powertrain’ which includes a motor, inverter and transmission. These two battery packs are capable of an ARAI-claimed range of 535 km and 682 km (550 km on WLTP), respectively. Using a 175 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be juiced up from 20% to 80% in a mere 20 minutes. The powertrains are able to generate power and torque figures are 228 hp / 380 Nm and 281 hp / 380 Nm, respectively. At the moment, there is a sole single-motor RWD iteration on offer.
In the most aggressive settings, the claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time is a spine-chilling 6.7 seconds. That is almost unbelievable for an Indian SUV. There is also a little party trick where a Boost mode allows maximum torque for a duration of 10 seconds. That will aid overtakes on the highways. This electric coupe SUV boasts a useable ground clearance of 207 mm which will take care of most obstacles even on the typically unpredictable Indian roads. One can use multiple storage spaces including a conventional trunk and a frunk with capacities of 455 litres and 45 litres, respectively. Mahindra has just announced the introductory price of the base model without charger at Rs 18.90 lakh, ex-showroom. Details of the entire range will surface at the Bharat Auto Show in January 2025. The deliveries are slated to commence at the end of February or starting of March.
