The upcoming Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV was recently spotted doing a road test. We have seen this EV being road-tested on multiple occasions now. The BE in its name represents the Born Electric range of upcoming EVs from Mahindra. Essentially, these will be based on a bespoke electric architecture. The other route is utilizing the normal platform of ICE cars and simply slapping on the electric motors and batteries. A prime example of this construction is the XUV400, which has been derived from the XUV300.
Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV Spied
This video comes from auto.thrust on Instagram. It captures a heavily camouflaged electric SUV on public roads. The coupe silhouette gives away its true identity. We recognize this appearance from the earlier spottings. In this video clip, the rear section is primarily visible. It contains a sloping roofline to complete the coupe shape. Moreover, we are barely able to see the connected LED taillamps and a bootlid-integrated spoiler. The alloy wheels are striking but the actual design is still not visible. There is also a spoiler and a slanted rear windshield. All in all, it will certainly carry an attractive road presence.
Specs
The official details of the specifications of specific BE models have not been announced by Mahindra. Still, it gave a broad range of what we can expect. Firstly, it will be based on the INGLO architecture. There might be options of 2WD and 4WD configurations. It will possess 175 kW DC fast charging capability. This will allow you to charge the EV from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes. As per the earlier timeline provided by Mahindra a couple of years ago, the launch of the BE.05 was planned for October 2025. If we venture to take a guess about the price range, it could be somewhere in the vicinity of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.
Author’s Note
Mahindra is on track to becoming a prominent player in the Indian EV space. It has planned 5 EVs in the next 2-3 years. This is in addition to the existing XUV400. At the moment, Tata Motors is the sole leader in the EV segment. But the other Indian auto giant wants to grab a huge chunk of that in the next few years. Since we have seen the BE.05 testing across various terrains and road conditions, it is clear that Mahindra wants to leave no stone unturned before offering the production version to the customers. We shall keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
