The Mahindra BE.05 electric SUV has been seen testing on Indian roads yet again. I have reported multiple instances of the coupe electric SUV being tested on the roads across the nation. In fact, I can safely say that Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to taking upcoming car to all corners of the country to test it rigorously. That’s why these SUVs are so rugged that they are capable to taking so much abuse. With EVs, there is an imperative need to monitor the behaviour of the battery pack at various temperatures. Hence, EVs need to be tested across extreme temperatures and conditions.
Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV Testing
This video clip emerges from autojournal_india on Instagram. It captures a thoroughly camouflaged coupe SUV amidst heavy traffic. It is certainly towering over the regular hatchbacks. However, its sloping roofline is indicative of its unique road presence. Look closely and you will know that this is the upcoming electric SUV from Mahindra, the BE.05. It is a Born Electric SUV which means that it won’t be a conversion from any ICE car. As a result, it will have its own identity and will look unlike any other Mahindra SUV out there.
There have been no official announcements by Mahindra regarding the details of the specifications of the BE.05 or any other EV for that matter. However, we can make some logical assumptions based on a few details Mahindra revealed some time ago. We know that the Born Electric SUVs will be underpinned by the INGLO platform. These will get the options of either a 2WD or a 4WD configuration. To take care of the charging capabilities, these will get a 175 kWh DC fast charger which allows 5-80% charging in just 30 minutes. As per the timeline provided by Mahindra, the BE.05 could see the day of light by the second half of next year (2025).
Our View
Mahindra is certainly planning to come all guns blazing in this fast-evolving Indian automobile industry. The EV sales are at an all-time high. Things are looking positive currently as more people join the EV bandwagon. At the moment, Tata Motors is the market leader in the EV space. But Mahindra is capable of putting up a fight with the kinds of EVs planned for the next couple of years. Interestingly, it will cater to a slightly more premium segment of the market. We shall keep an eye out for more details in this regard.
