South Africa is a huge market where made-in-India vehicles are sold and the 5-door Jimny is a perfect example of it
I recently came across a made-in-India, heavily modified Maruti Jimny from South Africa. Jimny, in its 5-door iteration, is getting popular around the globe. We know that Jimny is an iconic name in the world of off-roading. It has been around for over 5 decades in various international markets. However, it is for the first time in its lifecycle that the company launched a 5-door iteration in India. The aim is to cater to a large range of potential buyers who want practicality along with off-tarmac capabilities. Suzuki has been exporting this version of the Jimny to many parts of the world from India.
Modified Maruti Jimny in South Africa
The specifics of this video stem from Cars.co.za on YouTube. The owner of the 5-door Jimny takes the viewers through all the modifications he has performed on his Jimny. To start with, the entire exterior has been customized to look much more rugged and imposing. This includes things like a new Suzuki lettering logo on the grille, a rugged iron rod to protect the front bumper, a functional snorkel to enhance the water-wading capacity, off-roading tyres on steel rims, auxiliary lighting to improve lighting in the dark, new spare wheel cover at the rear, new LED taillamps, a new ladder on the bootlid and more. All these components elevate the imposing demeanour of the vehicle massively.
Apart from that, there are even hardcore mechanical customizations to accentuate the overall driving experience. The owner has installed an SG Performance turbocharger, a new intercooler, new brakes, raised suspension, a new exhaust system, etc. Due to this tuning, the power is up to 130 kW from 75 kW and the torque is increased to 150 Nm from 130 Nm. The small turbocharger ensures that there is no lag between the power delivery and when the driver presses the accelerator pedal. That allows a punchy low-end performance which is what an off-roading SUV like the Jimny needs. All in all, this has to be the most thorough aesthetic and performance modification I have come across on a Jimny outside India.
My View
I have seen multiple iterations of the Maruti Jimny with hardcore modifications to enhance adventurous traits. That is something which is very common among Jimny owners all around the world. People use the Jimny in South Africa for long trips across rugged terrains. Hence, such upgrades can really turn the Jimny into an unbeatable companion for such arduous journeys. Note that you can even install these components on the 3-door Jimny. I shall keep an eye out for more such cases in times to come.
